Hazardous Cargo Information
The ICS team would like to help you better understand the procedures and important information regarding shipping hazardous materials. Below we have outlined how hazardous shipments are handled and why they may take longer than standard cargo.
What is Considered Hazardous Cargo
Certain products are classified as hazardous materials due to their chemical, flammable, pressurized, or battery-powered components.

Why Hazardous Cargo Takes Longer
When cargo is identified as hazardous material, it cannot be shipped through the standard freight process.
International safety regulations require special handling, documentation, and approval before the cargo can be loaded onto a vessel.
Once the hazardous classification is confirmed, the required IMO (International Maritime Organization) documentation must be prepared and approved.
Unlike regular cargo, hazardous shipments cannot always be loaded on the next available sailing. Several factors determine when the cargo can depart, including:

✔️ Cargo compatibility
✔️ Safety regulations
✔️ Regulatory approvals
Because of these additional requirements, hazardous cargo may take longer to process and ship than standard cargo.

Providing this information early allows us to begin the documentation process sooner and helps keep your shipment moving as efficiently as possible.
