About us
Alida Heilbron & Bob Morgan
Owner of Island Communication Services, Alida Heilbron first started the mailbox business in 1999, when the company she was dealing with failed. She complained to her husband, Bob Morgan, who encouraged her to do it herself. She was led to a St. Maarten mailbox owner, who had a few customers on Saba but she wanted to sell that part of her business.
Alida decided to take it on. She recognized that she was in a good position because of her job as the University Administrator at the Saba University School of Medicine. A mailbox service offers a US address to people living on Saba, and greatly accelerates the delivery of ordinary mail, bulk mail and packages, a valuable service for young people away from home.
When the mailbox grew from 15 customers to close to 75, the Heilbron household was overflowing with packages. Alida, mother of two young girls was overworked and a solution needed to be found. The idea to expand into a proper business center for walk-in clientele and hire an employee was born.
Alida prepared a business plan and then asked for assistance from the Smal Business Stimulation Netherlands Antilles (SESNA) on the "number crunching" part. "I knew where I wanted to go, but it was important to have these details worked out in advance" Alida notes.
In the meantime, ICS boasts three computers offering internet access. Phone, fax, scanning and CD burning are also available. ICS will design and produce flyers and brochures, bind reports, laminate documents, type manuscripts and create personalized greeting cards. And our motto is; if we don't advertise it, please ask.
An enticing item is the large catalog service. ICS will place orders with only a 75% down payement on a catalog in our rack and will help customers locate catalogs that are online only. Alida, whose mother tongue is Dutch also offers translation services.
